Discover Sailing in the Baltics: Coast, Islands, and Lakes
Sailing along the Baltic Sea coast includes routes across open water, around islands, and through sheltered bays. Estonia’s islands, such as Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, are common sailing destinations with several harbors and marked routes. The Gulf of Riga has calmer waters, which are suitable for less experienced sailors. Inland sailing is also possible on larger lakes like Võrtsjärv and Usma. Boats range from small training dinghies to larger yachts equipped for longer trips. The sailing season lasts from late spring to early autumn, when weather conditions are generally more stable and winds are consistent.
